People can be poles apart and so can be their ways of living.Until a few years ago,in my home town there was a tradition of eating together.4,5 or more men would eat from one single plate,and drink from one big jug of water.Medically it may be wrong and to some it may be disgusting as people may catch disease from each other.The tradition comes from ancient times when tribes used to show unity by sharing food and,show trust by eating from one plate.Specially at large gatherings,like marriages,you may end up sharing food and water with people you never met before.Soon after the feast people would be walking around brushing their teeth with little sticks.
These traditions are now very rare and the so called modernization is slowly but surely eradicating all old and fun ways of life.

There is another side of the story.China and many other countries of the world,including Iran and Pakistan can produce descent fighter jets of their own at around 15 million dollars each.For each F-22 Raptor another country can produce 20 fighter jets,although not that technologically advanced,but still capable of a kill. If one F-22 is being hunted by 10 Chinese war jets,there is a probability that the raptor may shoot most of them but may not survive itself.By that calculation,the Chinese can counter act the expensive "Pride of America" in less than half the cost.
Its a matter of choosing if and elephant is more deadly or a bunch of wasps.
There is another dimension of the story.If 1 billion dollars are spent to devise a plan to convince the senate and obama administration that America is still in grave danger,it may work.Similar things happened in 9/11 and i fear that in current situation,some defense industry conspirator may arrange something similar to save their business.

Few months ago,i couldnt stand reading books,in fact i hated it.Never in my life i had read a novel or a story book larger than 100 pages.Then all of a sudden it all changed,and now i read a lot.My rescent accomplishments have been reading "Brisingr" and "Angels and Deamons".Both books were over 600 pages long.
I have realized that book reading is addictive,once you start you dont stop.
The kind of techno man as i am ,i tried to read books in other formats.I was eying at this Amazon's new gadget which can replace a paper book,but its way too expensive for me at the moment.Also i have learnt that Amazon sells their ebook reader with 1500 books pre loaded but keeps deleting them after your purchase,which is cheating.
So for the moment i am content with my PSP being used as a book reader after loading it with certain software available free on the internet.I have inverted colors for prolonging battery life.Although i am a bit old school and dont think that anything can replace paper,but my PSP saves me from carrying around heavy books,as i can save dozens of them in PDF or other formats and read where ever i like on my PSP (Yes i shouldnt be reading alice in wonder land )

With nothing better to do on a Friday,i tried to calculate the total weight of the world wide web aka the internet.
I checked the major search engines such as ask.com,msn,google and yahoo.On the average in July 2009 the total number of web pages cataloged by the search engines is 24 billion.That means there are 24000000000 web pages in the world.Now lets see if we print all this on paper,how much it will weigh.An average A4 size paper weighs 5 grams.So we need 24 billion A4 size pages to print all web pages.
24000000000/1000/1000 X 5 equals 120,000 tons.That does not include the weight of the printing ink.By that calculation the internet weighs 120,000 tons (if my maths is right).
A typical UK truck can carry 44 tons by law. We will need 2728 trucks to carry the internet.
Now we can calculate the length of the internet.A typical UK truck with trailer is 13.5 meters long,and a line of all the trucks carrying internet will be 36828 meters or 22.9 miles long.
Or if we make a line of 24 billion individual A4 size pages,treating each as a web page after printing the contents of individual webpages on each of them,we will end up with a line 7128000 km(as each A4 size paper is 297 mm) long or 4 429 133.86 miles.Thats about 4.5 million miles and thats about 9 round trips to the moon(again,if my maths is right ).

I have decided that i will be part time treasure hunter(Indiana jones style).This is not my picture,but i am planning to do something like this.
I will buy a 20 quid metal detector from Argos,and devote my weekends searching for riches buried by ancient civilizations.Who knows i might discover a rare roman coin,or may be a chest full of gold.
There is a problem.This metal detector can only sense metal in a range of 4 inches.After compensating for the grass,which is usually an inch or two high,i may be able to detect treasures buried only 2 inches underground .
Hmm,i dont know if they used to dig deep holes in the ground to bury their treasures,or they used to leave it in shallow ditches,so that wind blown dirt can cover their vases full of gold.
But who knows,the bitch called lady luck may be on my side

A decade ago when i was still living in my home town in the Himalayan foothills,a new bunch of young boys moved to house next to mine.All of them were from other parts of the country and were there for work or studies,as my home town has one of the highest concentration of schools and colleges in the Pakistan.Anyway,they were the lousiest teenagers i had sen until then.They rarely washed,were too loud all the time and wanted all the neighborhood to share their choice of music.One of them boys was particularly strange.Something about him was not right.All of them used to wear kinda western dresses all the time,such as tight trousers,t-shirts and jeans,which were at that time forbidden for girls(Not anymore)and were a very manly kinda dressing.This strange boy used to wear the dirtiest pair of jeans,had the shortest possible hair,and was a chain smoker.One day while shopping at the local grosser store,i happened to come across this strange boy,but didn't speak with him.A friend of mine poked me,and asked me "what do you think about him"? and i told him,i thought he is strange and that's all.But then he revealed that he was in fact a girl.I was shocked,as he dint look like a girl at all.The friend of mine told me that he thought the same,and only when he spoke to this strange boy,he realized that he/she has a girly voice,and then she confirmed that she is a "girl".
It was very abnormal for a girl to live like that,back then in that part of the world,and people despite knowing that he is a girl would still treat him as a boy,and were very accepting towards him despite his out of normal behavior.
After some asking around,i found out the she was an orphan,and from a rich family.Her parents died suddenly in a car crash,leaving behind her and two other siblings,younger than her.Although they left a lot of wealth behind them,but the relatives who took over the children were very greedy and evil.She was ten when her parents died,and as per tradition,the close relatives took over their upbringing.By the time she was 14,the evil relatives sold her house and somehow all the money vanished,which her parents had left for her.Then their behavior towards her changed and without saying this,they made her and the younger siblings to leave their house and live on their own.Thats when she decided to be "strong" and take care of herself and her two brothers.
The only way to be "tough" was to be a man,or behave like a man,as "men are tough" (aren't we?),and her psychological gender transformation was triggered.
By the time she moved near my house,she was about 17,and was no way a girl.Her body language,her dressing,her behavior,all were masculine.In fact she was so sure that she is a man,that the person in front of her,under the influence of her confidence,despite knowing that she was a woman,will still treat her as a man (All of us transmit some kinds mental waves,don't we?).By looking at her i was sure of my theory,that our thoughts effect our hormones,specially in the growth ages,or teen ages.He/she did not have any womanly features.No tits,no coca cola hips,and was a bit hairy too.My be her thoughts were so intense that her body started secreting male hormones instead of feminine.
Although she was doing good.He/she had a job and good income,but did she really needed to be a man to be tough?
I understand that our society at that time was a bit patriarchy and all,but still,cant women be tough and still stay women?

Dropped my nokia phone on the pavement and broke something.Now if i shake the phone,it sounds like a rattle.It stopped charging the normal way,but everything else was fine.My diagnosis was that the battery charging pins have broken.Since the phone is out of warranty(because its 3 years old),i have to arrange the repair myself.Until then i found a way to charge the battery,and it works .Here is a lego fitted with a normal phone charger.The usual charging thingy has been removed and the positive negative wire stick out of the lego block,held in contact with battery terminals by a hair band.

I just realized that i have never done a friends only post in my Bloggity life.

I read in the news that British and US troops are engaged in a major military offensive in afghanistan,code named "Operation Khanjar" or in plain english Khanjar is a dagger.Across the border from afghanistan,in pakistan a notorious military operation is also underway in the bordering areas of pakistan.Until resently there was a public unrest about all this,and people were uneasy about Pakistani troops going after "their own people".
All has changed rescently.The public support has swung towards the army and whatever they are doing.This has never happened before.
The Pakistani public who until rescently had some sympathy for the militants,has no more for them,and have turned againt them.People are now sick and tired of bomb blasts,and some illiterate,rude pushtoons who grow beard but dont know the basics of islam,being absolutely defiant to any peaceful approach being made towards them.One militant group declares cease fire and after a few hours they start shooting and killing,and it goes on and on.
The Pakistan army on the other hand always had respect from the people,and they too are "one of us".They do their best to avoid bloodshed and refrain from using heavy handed tactics.The militant treat this as a weakness and ambush,abduct and butcher Pakistani soldiers at every possible oppertunity.On the other hand the army's approach towards the militants ia very humane.The militants dont care about who dies,when they send a suicide bomber who blasts himself up and kill people who were just minding their own business in a market or going to work in a public transport.The army on the other hand is very carefull about where they want their artillary rounds to fall,so as to avoid innocent casualties.
All this has changed public opinnion,and now people stand with the army.If the militants want to die,let the army help them and may they rot in hell forever.

There is a concept of pan islamic brotherhood,its still there,but then one has to judge who is right and who is wrong? The militants are wrong,they cant be considered as our "islamic brotheren".They are simply blood thirsty assassins with no moral values.They are fighting for their own personal grudge and anger for something about which the general public is unaware of.They claim to be fighting for shariah.Being a muslim myself,me too would like to have shariah law in any predominantly muslim country.There are ifs and buts.The public should be willing to live by the shariah law,and it should be implimented in full.The current militant style shariah advocates are only after the punitive part of shariah,which cannot be implimented if the public dont want it and if its not accompanied by a full social security system.If the shariah social security system is implimented,that will mean that part of the earnings and wealth that people have,should be paid to the government as tax,and on top of that all muslims living under such a system should willingly give their excessive money and belongings directly to the poor.And if a person sleeps hungry,he/she can approach the caliph and hold him responsible for his/her sufferings,and the caliph is obliged to provide for the needy.
When an ambassidor of a large empire visited meccah in the time of Umer and asked a man sleeping under a tree about the king's palace,he was told that the king has no palace,and when he asked wher the king can be found,he was sent towards a man sleeping under another tree with a brick under his head as pillow,and that was Umer.Those were caliphs who kept their life styles on the level of the general public so that they have the first hand experience of people's problems.
I dont think that the militants who dont even know about the very basics of islam,have no morals and are mindless killing machines can do any of this.They are people who are most of the time high on cocane and just want to fight for any reason whatsoever.

Thats the book i am reading these days.Gona be a monumental task as it has about 750 pages and i have never read any book this big in my life.The story is very interesting,its all about dragons,riders,elves and magic.This is the third book in a series of four.That means the writer crictopher paolini has somehow written a story which consists of about 3000 pages.Thats incredible,and if i try to write a story this big,and without any major plot hole,i will probably need another life or two
