So i went to post a letter
@ 2008-10-29 – 18:28:58
Today in the afternoon i decided to go to the post office and since the nearest one is closed,i have to drive about a mile to post my letters.
When i was parking my car,i received a call from a friend who wanted to go to Bolton, and since his car had developed some fault,he wanted me to escort him,in case his car stops,at least i could tow him to hard shoulder before he calls the recovery.Looked like a simple task,i agreed and off we went.He was in front of me,and i was chasing him. After about 10 miles on the M61,near the exit to a slip road, his car suddenly came to a halt.I stopped at the hard shoulder. He was in the second lane with hazard lights on.As i was planning to cross one motorway lane and the adjoining slip road,i saw a large truck braking behind his car and swerving to avoid collision, and then there we two more similar near misses within 5 minutes. As soon as he found a chance,he abandoned the car and both of us stood behind the barrier. What initially looked like an easy and simple task was in fact very dangerous.
We had to call the police and the highway agency. They arrived within 10 minutes, and blocked one motorway lane, and the highway agency vehicle towed the car to the hard shoulder.Without them,it was nearly impossible.
From the safety of the hard shoulder,we called AA break down recovery, and they arrived in an hour to tow the broke down car to the scrap yard,at our request.
The friend was so scared from the three near misses in five minutes that he got rid of the car at the first opportunity.Although it was a fairly new Rover, recently MOT'd.
We should have used the internal roads for the adventure.Still it's weird that people don't expect a broken down car on motorway.Hazard lights were clearly blinking and that surely means that others have to steer clear, but still two truck drivers and one car driver came so close that they nearly hit the broke car. -
Proud owner of a 12 mega pixel camera

I bought a kodak easyshare camera, really cheap from a car boot sale.It was boxed and when i came home and opened the box, there was no battery.Googled for the type of battery suitable for this model and had to buy from hong kong as UK prices were expensive. The battery arrived in a week and i charged it,then put it inside the camera, and surprise surprise, the camera powered on,only to reveal that the LCD screen at the back was cracked and without it the camera was almost useless.
Found a specialist camera repair company in Staffordshire, rang them up and they gave me a £66 quote for replacing the LCD.
After Googling about the procedure for changing the camera's LCD,i found that it was a simple task but the replacement LCD was not available in UK and the only seller i could find for this exact model was in USA.cost me another £40 and 15 days for the LCD to arrive.
Eventually the camera cost me more than the price of a brand new one from a high street retailer, but all sorted now and its working perfectly

Pakistan street racing culture
@ 2008-10-28 – 16:32:24
Although illegal and very dangerous, and often chased away by police, but its a well organized community.
Rich boys with bags of money or genius boys with extremely good technical skills are the main competitors.
Most cars are highly modified with loads of add ons, often innovated locally.
On the average every week 2 or 3 youths lose their lives or are permanently disabled during these races, and showdowns. But this underground culture thrives. -
One store worker said that last Friday night was "like Beirut".

Youths force Tesco night closure
Rowdy teenagers have forced a 24-hour supermarket to close on Friday nights several times over the past few months.
Staff at Tesco Extra in Leyland, Lancashire, said the store has had to shut from midnight until 0300 BST on a number of occasions.
They said teenagers were throwing fireworks and congregating on the car park, despite it being very close to the local police station.
Lancashire police said it was working with Tesco to resolve the problem.
A spokesman for Tesco said that it was "a shame we have to resort to it".
Fireworks and alcohol
One store worker said that last Friday night was "like Beirut".
"We have had all sorts: kids throwing fireworks at staff and hurling fireworks at the trolley bays and people drinking outside. It is terrible," the staff member said.
Lancashire police said it had had a "small" number of complaints and was working with the store.
Chief Insp Debbie Howard said: "The decision to close the store early is based on police advice but this decision is at the manager's discretion.
"Tesco have been closing for a couple of hours from midnight on Friday nights, however, the main reason for this is due to adults visiting the store who are drunk who have been out drinking in the local pubs in the area.
"These people were then visiting the store and some were being abusive to Tesco staff and customers. Since this measure was introduced, incidents of this nature have reduced."

Building a high end PC
@ 2008-10-16 – 18:16:52
Now and again, when ever i can,i sell high end PC components.I get complaints from my buyers which on their behalf is justified, but in my opinion they bite more than they can chew, and when get stuck in relatively complicated technical issues, they start blaming me for selling them a faulty component.
In general and in my experience, building any PC using motherboard with Dual PCI express 16X slots can be tricky as the chip connecting the two graphics card slots have very strict compatibility criteria. If you use a non compatible component specially RAM,the PC may not boot up or crash frequently. The main problem lies in the firmware of the BIOS.Manufacturers roll out newer CPU and RAMs with higher frequencies and voltages, and the BIOS firmware being older does not recognize them and supplies wrong voltage.Result is a frozen computer screen, sometimes so badly that you can't enter the bios setup.
The simple remedy is to keep handy a basic Processor,no dual or quad core and an older RAM.Start the computer with basic CPU and RAM and then update the BIOS to the latest version by downloading the file from Motherboard manufacturer's website.
Once done, you can use any high end processor or RAM the motherboard is built to comply with.
If you don't want to update the BIOS or can't do it for some reason, most BIOS can be popped out of their socket with the help of a paper clip, and you can ask the manufacturer for a new updated chip. This does not cost a fortune but takes time.Once you receive the updated BIOS,you can simply push it in the socket.
Many times what you see on the computer screen is not true. For example the RAM or CPU votage can be up to 25% higher or lower than what it shown in the BIOS setup screen. Then you may hit and try.Just increase and decrease the voltages gradually until you get yourself a stable system.
If nothing works, keep a 5KG sledge hammer ready, and use it for obtaining the peace and tranquility back in your life.

Pope begins Bible-reading marathon
@ 2008-10-06 – 12:59:59
ROME, Italy (AP) -- Pope Benedict XVI's "In the beginning" started off a weeklong Bible-reading marathon on Italian television Sunday.
RAI state TV began its program called "The Bible Day and Night," with Benedict reciting the first chapter of the book of Genesis -- the holy text's opening verses about the creation of the world. The marathon will feature more than 1,200 people reading the Old and New Testament in over seven days and six nights.
On the other hand quran is recited complete at least once in every mosque during ramadan, and round the year many times. In addition people like me recite the whole book complete during the 30 odd days of ramadan.
It may be the only book that is completely memorized, accurately each and every word of it,by millions round the world.
And hey ramadan finished last week and i celebrated "eid" ,mission accomplished.

Ordinary people paying for politics
@ 2008-10-05 – 14:05:30
But thats nothing new.
over 3 million legally registered and an untold number of afghan refugees have been residing in Pakistan since early 1980s.
To be honest they haven't been a burden on economy, instead they have contributed to it.
They did bring in heroin and Kalashnikov, but they are better off in pakistan than going back to their barren and war torn country.
Recent escalation of political tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan has made Pakistani government to push afghan refugees across borders into their own country.
They are ethnic afghan refugees but many of them were born in Pakistan, and most of the Pakistani people have no problems with them.
across the border there has been a war going on for over 2 decades now,and its unsafe for them to return. -

Heaven!
Well known word.Used in daily conversations. What is heaven?
A place where we will be free of all laws of nature. No gravity will pull us down if we don't want to.No time and no space.
Makes me think that there may be such a place where i can be in total command without harming someone.
There better be such a place. -

Most people either believe in hell,or use this word in everyday conversation. What is hell?
Some place in the intergalactic dimensions!
A place of ultimate sufferings. Its said that hell was burnt so much that its fire lost all it's light and became darker than a moonless night.
Its also said that one spark from hell if comes in contact with earth, the planet will be consumed immediately. There is no time in hell, and its an infinity. Those who will fall into it will keep falling for ever, and their bodies will grow humongous, and as big as mountains.
Do we know a place like that?
Yes we do.
The black holes fit almost all the description of hell. They are hot and emit no light. One tennis ball size black hole can consume earth.Time becomes infinity, and human body will become stretched to unimaginable dimensions.hmmmm -
