  • Threats to global peace

    By Ahto Lobjakas

Brussels, 3 November 2003 (RFE/RL) -- An opinion poll conducted in October puts Israel at the top of a list of countries considered a "threat to world peace" by citizens of the European Union.

Israel is considered a threat by 59 percent of those polled, followed by the United States, Iran, and North Korea, all considered a threat by 53 percent of the EU population.

Gerassimos Thomas, a European Commission spokesman, today said the EU has no official comment on the results. The poll's findings have already drawn criticism from Israel, where ministers have said they show anti-Semitism is on the rise in the EU.

However, Thomas indicated the results could influence EU policy in the Middle East and elsewhere. He said the results "are taken for what they are. They are polls and, of course, our policy takes a number of factors into account. Eventually, I'm sure, as our policy develops, you will see it taking all sorts of information into account, including this information."

Some Israeli newspapers suggested over the weekend that the poll shows the EU is not a neutral participant in the Middle East peace process and should be removed from the diplomatic Quartet -- also comprising the United States, the United Nations, and Russia -- which earlier this year published a joint "road map" to peace. Thomas said the commission has not received any official complaints about the poll.

Countries like Syria and Libya -- both accused by the United States of harboring terrorists -- are seen as threats to global peace by 37 percent and 36 percent of EU citizens, respectively. China, India, and Russia score 30 percent or less.

Overall, respondents were given a list of 15 countries to score. The list did not include the Palestinian Authority, which Thomas said was omitted since it is not yet a country.

Distrust of Israel is at its strongest in the Netherlands, Austria, Luxembourg, and Germany. Italy is the only EU member state where less than half of the population, 48 percent, views Israel as a threat to world peace.

Greece easily outstrips other EU member states in its negative assessment of the U.S., with 88 percent saying the country presents a threat. Levels of distrust were also high in traditional U.S. allies such as the Netherlands (64 percent), Spain (61 percent), and Britain (55 percent).

A little more than half of EU citizens said they feel their countries are threatened by terrorists, with Spain and Britain feeling the most vulnerable.

The same poll also measured attitudes toward developments in Iraq. While a little more than two-thirds of the EU population thinks military intervention in Iraq was not justified, more than half want their own country to help finance the reconstruction effort.

Forty-three percent said the United Nations -- together with multinational peacekeeping forces -- should be responsible for security in Iraq during reconstruction, with only 5 percent saying that role should be retained by the United States and its present allies.

  • The Ten Lost Tribes of Israel, and the Taliban

Over 2,700 years ago, the Assyrians exiled the ten tribes of the Kingdom of Israel.
The taliban were Pathans, and the origin of Pathans is a mystery.
There is interesting evidence about the preservation among the tribes of family trees on their origin, and on their relationship to the fathers of the Israeli people. These family trees are well preserved. Some of them are penned in golden lettering on deerskin. The names of the tribes speak for themselves: the tribe of Harabni (in the Afghan tongue) is the tribe of Reuben, the shinwari is Shimeon, the Levani – Levi, Daftani – Naftali, Jaji – Gad, Ashuri – Asher, Yusuf Su, sons of Josef, Afridi – Ephraim, and so on.
The commander of Muslim delegation "Khalid bin waleed" came to Afghanistan with the message of Islam from Arabia, and the locals accepted it.
The Pathans are mostly Muslims today and one of the best practitioners of the religion Islam.

  • High tech military hardware..is it safe?

USA attacked and destroyed many armies of the world. They may be "Brave warriors" or it may be their gadgets who give them the upper hand.
Electronics is involved in almost every war machine these days.Missiles, aircrafts perform better and better, but all is highly Dependant on computers.
Lets take examples. The F-16,and the Euro fighter are two of the most successful fighter jets in the world. Both these planes are highly agile and very manoevarable.
The secret is in the unstable designs. Both the planes are built unstable in all three dimensions. An onboard computer constantly adjust the manoevering mechanism to make the plane fly.Without the inboard computers, they will be chunks of titanium.
Same with the satellites. The pin point accuracy of the Americam cruise missiles depends on the GPS system. It is a constellation of 24 low earth orbit satellites,so arranged that at any instance, there are atleast 2 satellites above the horizon, anywhere in the world.
An earth station calculates the position of each satellite for the next 24 hours and beams the data to the satellites. The satellites transmit the data into the GPS receivers. The receiver calculates it's position relative to the satellite's position.Again depending on computers.
Even the soldiers on ground use embedded computers for firing accuracy.
If a so called Third world "rouge state" finds a way to disable the computers,it can have the upper hand.
    The solution is out there.
It has been test fires in almost all gulf wars.Specially on iraq.It was an E-Bomb

"The U.S. Air Force has hit Iraqi TV with an experimental electronmagetic pulse device called the 'E-Bomb' in an attempt to knock it off the air and shut down Saddam Hussein's propaganda machine. Iraqi satellite TV, which broadcasts 24 hours a day outside Iraq, went off the air around 4:30 a.m. local time."

    - CBS News, 3-25-03

E-bombs can unleash in a flash as much electrical power—2 billion watts or more—as the Hoover Dam generates in 24 hours. [And], although the Pentagon prefers not to use experimental weapons on the battlefield, "the world intervenes from time to time," - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

    - Time Magazine, 1-19-03

It is a totally non-lethal weapon.People do not die,and properties are not damaged. It unleashes a burst of high energy electromagnetic waves, which fry most electronic circuit within a small radius.
If this happens and the computers fail, almost all modern war toy will fail.
In a battle field, this weapon can turn tables and the side which is mostly mechanical than electronic will have the upper hand, and at present the biggest armies in the world are e-Armies.The rest are still highly dependant on the age old mechanical systems.
So it is not the end of the world for the countries at risk of attack from the mighty USA.
The most advanced military forces have this Achilles Heel ....."The computer"

Wandering with a fellow crew member on the streets of Verna(or may be varna) in Bulgaria,we came across a woman standing on the street. She tried to talk to us,but we did not pay much attention and kept on walking. We were unaware, but she started following us.Verna is a beautiful city, and we were in the city center. It was about 10 o clock in the night, and there were people on the streets.
We had a good time and we were heading back to the harbor.
There was a large park in the way,and as we entered the park, this woman called us from behind. We stopped and she approached us.We did not realize that we saw her before, but she asked us that why we did not stop and talk to her when she called us in the city centre.
The woman's behavior was a little surprise for us,but i wanted to be polite and apologized. She accepted the apology, and asked us to accompany her to the harbor as she too was going that way.We had no objection.
She asked us different things, including our nationalities, names, and what we wee doing in Bulgaria.
After a short introduction, she said that she has a nice house, with hot bath, and if one of us or both of us wanted to enjoy her,she won't be too expensive. Both of us were too tired, and were not interested,so we refused.
Meanwhile she received a call on her mobile, and talked to someone in her language, said bye to us and went away.
As we were about to exit the park, two girls approached us from nowhere, and without saying anything they hugged us.Both were young, and were wearing revealing dresses. For the next 5 minutes or so,they were all over us,and we did not resist :>.
It was a pleasant surprise. The lifted their shirts, held our hands against their boobs, while their arms were around us.After a short spell of testosterone surge,my senses started to come back, and i pushed the girl away from me.She kept smiling, and said something to the other girl, and both of them finally went away.
We actually enjoyed all that, because it was free and unexpected.
Finally when we were back on ship,my mate found out that his wallet has been stolen, and me too had lost some money from one of my pockets.
It was an organized gang of pickpockets, working in coordination. The woman in the market selected us as targets, and informed the young girls. The young girls used their beauty, and all the moves to distract us,and we being men, fell in their trap.

  • How come Europe is a continent?

Looking at the world map,all continents are separated from each other by oceans, except Europe. There is no large water body separating Asia and Europe.Looking at the world map,i always get an impression that someone has just drawn a line between Asia and Europe to make it a continent, but geologically it is part of Asia. The definition by which the rest of the continents are taken as "continents" does not apply to Europe.Or does it?

  • Glasgow terror,a semi-scientific analysis

Apparently, the terrorists were traveling towards the glasgow airport with an off roader half filled with domestic butane cylinders.
Butane is a hydrocarbon, which is highly inflammable, but how good is it at exploding?
To explode, the gas needs oxygen and ignition source. The gas air mixture must be between 2% and 5%.If it is below 2% or above 5%,it will still burn but will not explode.
The autoignition temperature of butane is around 450 C
.At this temperature, the gas will auto ignite, without any ignition source, such as lighter or flame or spark.
From the news reports i saw on various news channels, the terrorists stopped the vehicle, poured petrol inside it,ignited it and then drove it into the airport.
Looking at all this, they were planning to explode the gas cylinders under the effect of heat.
If the gas cylinders were to explode, they needed to be heated up to a certain degree, where the internal pressure of the gas was above the designed maximum pressure that the cylinder walls could take.
the domestic cylinder is made up of 2-3 mm thick mild steel sheet, which is welded to make a bottle shape. The usual maximum pressure for which these cylinders are made is 1000psi.At this pressure the weakest part of the cylinder will give way and the gas will escape a t a very high velocity.
If at the time of the structural failure of the gas cylinder, the gas is at at it's auto ignition temperature,it will ignite immediately upon contact with oxygen, but that won't be an explosion, but an ignition. If the gas is released at lower than the auto ignition temperature,it will escape at high velocity, and may or may not come in contact with the source of ignition.
But the domestic cylinders which the terrorists were using are fitted with safety valves, which release small quantities of gas to avoid internal pressure from rising to dangerous levels.
For the terrorist's attack to be devastating, all cylinders had to reach high pressure, and then explode at the same time, which unless they had devised some ingenious way,was not very probable.
The cylinders could have heated up and then ruptured to release flammable gas,and for that to happen, their car had to be at fire for more than 10 minutes.Even then the cylinders would have ruptured one at a time or a few at a time.
So thank you al-qaeda for sending such dumb ass knuckle dusters, who apparently had no knowledge about flammable gasses :DD:DD:DD

  • You should do more to stop terrorism?

Today i called home in Pakistan. My family lives about 100 miles north of Islamabad(The capital city).
There is a large military base near my home.My mom told me that there have been too many gunship helicopters taking off and landing all day, reason being a large operation being carried out in Islamabad against an Islamic college.
I know this Islamic school has been there for so many years, and it is a famous one.Whatever they were teaching 20 years ago, they teach the same now.
But last few years have been tough for religious scholars and schools. In Pakistan there are thousands of religious schools, almost all are residential and free. They don't charge any money from their students. All are public funded, government contribution is negligible.
So much pressure have been exerted on the government of Pakistan in the name of war against terror that they have now gone insane.
In the wake of every terrorist attack or threat in the western countries,Pakistani government takes action to release the international pressure to "do more" .
In Glasgow one man and a car was burnt, today and yesterday 16 Pakistanis lost their lives in their own country, due to the government operation under international pressure.
This is a chain reaction,a domino effect in which Muslims are loosing far more than the western countries.
In my opinion, large Muslim countries such as Pakistan should stop taking instructions from western countries.
All this is doing little good to us,and we are losing.Losing lives of our people, and there is never a positive thing said about us in western media,it's always negative.
The western countries should stop accusing us of their own failure to protect their borders and people.

  • What's happening planet earth?

SANTIAGO, Chile - Scientists on Tuesday blamed global warming for the disappearance of a glacial lake in remote southern Chile that faded away in just two months, leaving just a crater behind.
The disappearance of the lake in Bernardo O'Higgins National Park was discovered in late May by park rangers, who were stunned to find a 130-foot deep crater where a large lake had been.

After flying over the lake Monday scientists said they were able to draw preliminary conclusions that point to climate change as the leading culprit for the lake's disappearance.

They suggested the melting of nearby glaciers raised the lake's level to the point where the increased water pressure caused part of a glacier acting as a dam to give way. Water in the lake flowed out of the breach, into a nearby fiord and then to the sea.

Scare tactics always work.Make people scared and they will do what you want them to do,and they will believe whatever you say.
All they have to do is to find a bearded man who was either born in Pakistan or was there during the last few years. Then find his cctv footage in a super store buying bleach or washing powder. Then a footage of him or some one looking like him lurking around on a public place, such as bus station or train station.
Then his cctv footage meeting some friends, and some more footage of him walking around something big, such as a big white bag of something,or a big box.
Evidence complete, early morning raid, and Britain on 'critical' alert level.

And yes,i have a few of these qualities,i was born in Pakistan, and i have been there in the last few years, and i have a goaty ;)

Am i scared? I keep a small notebook with me and note down the location and time, whenever i pass in front of a CCTV.I have been keeping a 90% accurate record since i arrived in Britain.I have thousands of entries in my small notebooks. So i can prove where and when i have been in this country during the last few years, without the police scrolling through thousands of hours of CCTV footage. That is if ever it will be needed, but who knows, who's door will be broken in an early morning raid, arrested and taken away.I don't know.
