MOSCOW: Russia on Tuesday successfully test-fired a next generation intercontinental ballistic missile capable of piercing the planned US missile defense shield in central Europe.
After the demise of the USSR,uncle sam was the only surviving superpower, and had been roaming the world unrestricted, like a rampant elephant(or may be rabbit
)
The Russians have now revived their military capabilities and the sleeping tiger has started to flex it's muscles.
In their hay days, they were far ahead of USA in space and missile technology. All this in effect kept a nice balance in the world politics.
Russians have gladly started to act as a super power again, and so uncle sam will find a worthy opponent to keep himself busy, and will not have to dig holes in Iraq or lose men in the afghan caves,to keep his war machine lively. -
Afraid of us?
@ 2007-05-28 – 08:39:52
It is an era in which the world seems to be afraid and ganging up against Muslims.
But are we that powerful and dangerous?
All over the EU there are less than 5% of Muslims. The country with biggest Muslim population is France, and never had any Islamic terrorist attack.Germany has bigger population of Muslims than the UK,but surprisingly enough, the UK had at least one full fledged terrorist attack, but the Germans never had any. They keep themselves busy in making Volks Wagons and Audis instead of waging a war against errrm something.

There must be something different between France,Germany and UK.
Well, maybe the western countries feel threatened by us because we may launch an attack on them.
Lets see...

The annual budget of NATO is more than the annual fiscal budget of a dozen Muslim countries combined.
Only two EU countries, namely UK and France have enough nuclear weapons to obliterate the whole world at least 5 times. The piles of conventional weapons and all the technology, not a hint of which any muslim country will have in the next 100 years, are added bonus.
It will take less than an hour and the push of a few buttons if Europe or the USA,one day decides to wipe us out,and it is there. The capability exists for the last 40 years or so.
On the other hand if the muslims decide to send suicide bombers to EU or USA,wanting to destroy them! a normal human can lift 40Kg of stuff easily. The suicide bomber with 40kg each of explosive, and say 1000 of them will make a combined 40,000 kg or a mere 40 Tons of explosive power.Far less than a single B-2 aircraft's attack.
Human lives lost?
3000 died in 9/11 and 52 died in 7/7.
Estimated 30000 to 40000 in Afghanistan and far more in Iraq, and counting.
At the current rate, there will be an iron curtain between the muslim and non-muslim world in near future.
That won't be too bad,as isolation is eventually not a bad thing. The world left China, saying that they are in humane and communist. After a couple of decades, they are a power to be respected.
If we too are pushed back in our cocoon,it will be good for us.

Cow farts more damaging to planet than CO2 from cars
@ 2007-05-22 – 18:19:15
By Geoffrey Lean, Environment Editor
Published: 10 December 2006Meet the world's top destroyer of the environment. It is not the car, or the plane,or even George Bush: it is the cow.
A United Nations report has identified the world's rapidly growing herds of cattle as the greatest threat to the climate, forests and wildlife. And they are blamed for a host of other environmental crimes, from acid rain to the introduction of alien species, from producing deserts to creating dead zones in the oceans, from poisoning rivers and drinking water to destroying coral reefs.
The 400-page report by the Food and Agricultural Organisation, entitled Livestock's Long Shadow, also surveys the damage done by sheep, chickens, pigs and goats. But in almost every case, the world's 1.5 billion cattle are most to blame. Livestock are responsible for 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than cars, planes and all other forms of transport put together.
Burning fuel to produce fertiliser to grow feed, to produce meat and to transport it - and clearing vegetation for grazing - produces 9 per cent of all emissions of carbon dioxide, the most common greenhouse gas. And their wind and manure emit more than one third of emissions of another, methane, which warms the world 20 times faster than carbon dioxide.
Livestock also produces more than 100 other polluting gases, including more than two-thirds of the world's emissions of ammonia, one of the main causes of acid rain.
Ranching, the report adds, is "the major driver of deforestation" worldwide, and overgrazing is turning a fifth of all pastures and ranges into desert.Cows also soak up vast amounts of water: it takes a staggering 990 litres of water to produce one litre of milk.
Wastes from feedlots and fertilisers used to grow their feed overnourish water, causing weeds to choke all other life. And the pesticides, antibiotics and hormones used to treat them get into drinking water and endanger human health.
The pollution washes down to the sea, killing coral reefs and creating "dead zones" devoid of life. One is up to 21,000sqkm, in the Gulf of Mexico, where much of the waste from US beef production is carried down the Mississippi.
The report concludes that, unless drastic changes are made, the massive damage done by livestock will more than double by 2050, as demand for meat increases.

leeching the poor

The debt boomerang
The Third World debt crisis is doing you harm – whether you live in
the North or the South. Susan George explains how a small elite is
making a killing at the expense of the world’s majority. If the goals of managers in the official institutions that rule over Third World debt were to squeeze the debtors dry, to transfer enormous resources from South to North and to wage undeclared war on the poor continents and their people, then their policies have been an unqualified success.
If, however, their strategies were intended – as official institutions always claim – to promote development beneficial to all members of society, to preserve the planet’s unique environment and gradually to reduce the debt burden itself, then their failure is colossal.
The most obvious aspect of this failure – or success, depending on your point of view – is financial. Every single month, from the outset of the debt crisis in 1982 until the end of 1990, debtor countries in the South remitted to their creditors in the North an average six-and-a-half billion dollars in interest payments alone. If payments of the principle are included, then debtor countries have paid creditors at a rate of almost twelve-and-a-half billion dollars per month – as much as the entire Third World spends each month on health and education.
Moreover, the debt crisis has given creditor countries the chance to intervene in the management of dozens of debtors’ economies – using the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Their job is simple: to make sure the debt is serviced. Since the average citizen of a low-income debtor country earns less than one fiftieth of the average citizen of a high-income creditor country, this process is like trying to extract blood from a stone.
To accumulate hard currency and service its debts a country must increase its exports and reduce government spending. Most debtor governments have accepted this and forced their people to co-operate with the draconian policies of the IMF and World Bank to ensure that debts are serviced. Much good has it done them. A decade has passed since the Third World debt crisis first erupted, yet in spite of harsh measures faithfully applied this crisis is today more intractable than ever.

How to have a conversation with an ex-girlfriend in 10 simple steps
@ 2007-05-21 – 15:41:02
1) Start off by…
…casually dropping in some kind of reference as to how “long ago it seems” since you both last talked. Sound nonchalant.2) Then, subtley…
…mention an anecdote from a recent holiday, or say something like, “it’s funny you should mention that because they say the exact same thing in the Bahamas. I know that because I was there recently. In the Bahamas”.3) Remember to always….
…refer to her new boyfriend by using “scare quotes” around his “name”.4) Talk about…
…mutual friends as if they have been hanging out with you more.5) At all times…
…talk to her face.6) If you can’t do that, at least…
…refrain from saying anything like, “SO COME ON, TELL ME WHO FUCKS BETTER. ME OR HIM. ME OR HIM“.7) Remember to…
…make references to anything interesting you do in your spare time (Chinese pottery, wine-tasting classes, betting on midget fights), which will rouse suspicions that your life is possibly much more fulfilling than hers.8) Wherever possible, try to…
…accompany the phrase, “when WE were together…” with an eye-roll.9) Casually remind her…
…that you are still in possession of hundreds of naked pictures of her. Maybe accompany this with some kind of pelvic thrust or eyebrow waggle, or perhaps sniff your index finger and give out a long, drawn out moan.10) And always follow this one golden rule…
…never show any emotion. Don’t show that you were hurt by the breakup. Don’t show that you are interested in her current life. Don’t laugh at her jokes. Don’t laugh at your own jokes. If women are as inherently crazy as I have been led to believe considering the events of the past few months, this final step should drive her insane with passion and she’ll be grabbing at your balls again before you can say “Richard” with a scare-quote gesture for the 15th time. -
A spoiled generation
@ 2007-05-20 – 07:27:03
There is a park near my home.It is a small park.Every Saturday night i see teenagers gathering there for different reasons at different times.
Mid day is the time of hoody salesmen. They sell stolen gadgets, from Nokia mobile phones to Sony Viao Laptop computers.
Then there are 9 to 15 years old drug dealers. If you give then 5 pounds, they will go somewhere and will comeback with your "stuff".Then you pay them either by sharing your "stuff" or paying them another fiver.
Early evening is the young prostitute time.Girls as young as 15 or 16 years old, hang around in search of clients.
8 to 10 years old smokers is very common scene.
And yes the 6 to 10 years old "Door breakers".The come in groups, and one by one kick your door, and run away. You can't beat them,as they are little kids. They keep doing it for a few days, and slowly your door locks become loose. Now their big bosses visit your home, when you are away, and steal whatever they can.
Not to mention the late night booze party, when the so called kids howl like wolves.
These kids are Bright future of Britain.Arn't they? -
The white blond american lad
@ 2007-05-19 – 09:23:00
Me me me me and only me
one day you lot are gona be fed up of my stories, here is another one.
He was 17,tall white,blond teenager.
I met him....not really met him...but saw him going to the little mosque of my little town in the Himalayan foot hills of northern Pakistan.
I was a teenager my self, and was playing cricket with my mates. In that age i did not care much about religious practices. It was the time of prayer and i was meant to be in the mosque, but i preffered playing cricket.
After a while,we saw him coming towards us.He was wearing a proper Muslim dress, with turban.
It was unusual for us to see a westerner in that outfit,so we got distracted and stopped our thrilling cricket match.
He came near, shook hand with all of us and asked us to go with him to the mosque and pray,as it the time of prayer. His words were so impressive, and he had such an effect on us that we left everything and followed him to the mosque.
After we said our prayers,we had our first introduction with him.He was David 2 months ago,and was living in newyork with his mother. His mother was an army Sargent.
He somehow bumped into some religious books in the library, eventually read books about Islam, then approached a Muslim cleric, and out of his own choice and interest embraced Islam. He was 2 months old Muslim, but was so perfect in practicing the religion that it really ashamed us,the born Muslims.Only one question came to all of our mind, why we are not practicing our religion, when he can.
After meeting him,and having a short conversation with him,we were totally changed, mostly out of shame and envy.
The same thing happened to thousands of "Born Muslims" whom he met during his trans Pakistan tour.
He was on a self imposed preaching tour, and according to him,we born Muslims needed help and were on the verge of abandoning or deteriorating our religion.
He proved to be like a massaya,to so many drug addicts, womanizers, gambling addicts, alcoholics, all born Muslims.
All of them thought only one thing, that if he can be so pious in two months, why can't we be the same?
After all we are born Muslims, and still chose to include ourselves in this clan.
When he passed through markets, people would shut their busy shops and follow him to the mosque. There was some kind of light coming out of him.
Hundreds of drug addicted and criminals left their bad habits, and became caring and friendly family members and kind neighbors, and practicing Muslims.
All of this due to a 17 year old.
Today thousands of us Pakistani Muslims choose to hate USA and eventually it's people because this country is invading islam and Muslims.
I may or may not agree with that claim, but i know an American who made me and thousands like me "Practicing Muslims".
People from my town were so impressed with him that later, a group traveled all the way to newyork to meet him.He was living there as an icon of purity for people regardless of their religion. He gained the status of "wise man" in his community and people came to him for advice. -
extreme poverty
@ 2007-05-18 – 13:43:42
Once upon a time,i went to Chittagong in Bangladesh.
It was the monsoon season, and the weather was very wet.
As our ship entered the dock, and we set our foot on dry land, naturally we rushed toward the city.
Outside the port premises, there was an empty area. There i saw a woman cooking something under a tree and four children playing around her.The kids looked happy,so i thought they were on picnic.
Late in the night,i came back from my outing trip.
The women and the kids were not in my mind, but i was surprised to see them sleeping under the same tree, where i thought that they were on picnic.
The next mourning,i was off duty, and i went looking for that woman, along with a Bengali translator.
The only foreign languages i can speak are English and Arabic.
We approached the woman, who looked scared of us.We assured her that we are here only to talk to her and possibly help her.I came to know that she and her kids lived under the tree,as they had no home.
They were so poor that they did not have any shelter during the rain. Not even a piece of tarpaulin or plastic sheet.
She was married to a man in her teen ages, and a month after the birth of her fourth kid,the man disappeared.
My translator told me that this is very common is rural Bangladesh, where people are mostly farmers, and frequent floods sweep away everything.
Most farmers pass their lives under a heap of debt.
They grow crops in the hope of food and some money, and all is ruined due to the monsoon flooding.
No social security system, and a government so poor that it can't build dams to prevent flooding.
Eventually, down the line, millions of poor farmers are foced to abandon their families, and the families are forced to live under the sky.
I asked her,how she eats. She told me that she gathers fruits and vegetables form the jungle.Bangladesh is a lush green country, and at least people got this option.
In many african countries, they haven't got this option. There is a lot that can be done about it,as from western standards it does not cost much.
In cities like bombay in india or calcutta or chittagong,a whole family can live good on as low as 50 pounds a month. This is the amount of money we spend on buying a few DVD's or on a single night out.
On our ship,we were 18 people of 6 different nationalities, all from different financial and cultural backgrounds, and from 5 continents.
All of us came across her and individually helped her. This shows that we humans regardless of our ethnic origin, religion, culture and country,do not like poverty.Surprisingly enough, most of us choose to spend money on totally insane and unnecessary objects, when the same money can pull somebody somewhere else, out of the jaws of disease, hunger, despair and death. -
Media,size zero,mass hypnosis and stuff :)
@ 2007-05-18 – 01:31:08
There has been a lot of debate about size zero, and some girls starving themselves to look like skeletons. The idea of being ultra thin and still look attractive is all media driven.
Personally i don't like skinny women. They are so without curves.
Eventually most of us want to be like someone else.Media being the main source of most of our thoughts and even behavior.
Our likes and dislike about most things are driven from media.
Sometimes i feel lucky that i do not own a TV.Yes it's true
i don't have a TV set at home.Saves me some money and a hell lot of time.

Of heaven and hell and the doomsday
@ 2007-05-03 – 11:44:15
Many Oscar winning movies have been made about the religious concept of doomsday. Many books have been written about it.All religions believe in it.And openly or secretly most humans believe in it too.Whether religious or not.
In Islam there are certain signs of the start of this great event.Giving them a sequence is a difficult task.
Some of the events that will take place on the doomsday, really scare me.
It will not happen all of a sudden, instead it will be a chain of events. The most prominent of all, that will indicate the start of the doomsday sequence, will be the night when the earth will stop rotating on it's axis and the night will be longer than usual. Then the earth will rotate in the opposite direction, and the sun will rise in the west. After mid day,the earth will resume it's normal rotation and the sun will set in the west.
The other things that are said to happen after this, will be a global toxic wind(may be pollution). The loss of earth's gravitational pull, that will uproot all mountains. The mountains will collide in mid air.
The sun will come too close to earth, and the oceans will boil and evaporate. The earth's surface will become metallic.
The concept of hell is bizarre. But logical. In islam it is said that the hell is made of the "black fire"
.A fire that does not emit any light, and eats rocks. There are some other characteristics of this hell fire.Eventually all of it is a near match with the scientific concept of black hole. A black hole does not emit any light,is extremely hot,and eats anything near it.
The concept of heaven is rather simple. It will be a place,or a form of our lives, where we will be in control of everything.Time, matter, events, all will happen and take shape as we will want them.anything and everything that we want will happen.
I think that the good thing about all this is that we will live on,in different forms, and dimensions,we will never cease to exist.
Thats what i believe. -
